Not Aprils Fools Day- Mysterious Card Promotion in Chiredzi

Whilst many where preparing to go for Easter holidays and some were playing April Fools day pranks, in Chiredzi, Pelagias Lost Spider Internet Cafe launched its promotion with fanfare.

Chiredzi is in the south-east of Zimbabwe and ICTs (Internet Communication Technologies) take up there has been slow. There is only one Internet Cafe and at the same time a big proportion of the population doesn’t know about the Internet or do they have basic skills of using a computer.

Miss Farai Mutanda the Marketing Manager of Pelagias Lost Spider Internet Café said their promotion code named "Mysterious Card" is aimed to stimulate the public on the advantages of using the new technology of Internet.

The Mysterious Card promotion was launched on the 1st of April and will end on 30 June. During the course of the promotion Pelagias Lost Spider Internet Cafe customers will have a chance to win in-store prizes.

Afterwards, on 3 July 2010 all eligible customers shall be entered into the final grand draw. The grand prize is a full featured laptop which also carries 3 months free Internet Access from POME (POME is a sister brand to Pelagias Lost Spider Internet Cafe). Mysterious Card promotion prizes include grocery hampers, cellphones, t-shirts and a night for two in a hotel.

This is the second year that Pelagias Lost Spider Internet Cafe has launched this kind of promotion. In the mid-morning of 1 April 2010 pupils from Chiredzi Primary schools drum majorettes group lined up in one of Chiredzi's up-market streets. Mysterious card promotion’s golf T-Shirts splashed the town white, red and black. The police were out in full force maintaining sanity.

10:00am sharp the procession around town started with cars and bells ablaze. The general public was curious of the new words that some of them were hearing for the first time: Internet, website, email and so on. The procession ended in Tshovani Township after 2 hours of hard walk and explaining things to the public.

After the Tshovani Township walk, the crew returned to the CBD for dance and music just outside Pelagias Lost Spider Internet Cafe. Miss Farai Mutanda led her fellow staff members in educating the public about the Internet. There were also lucky winners chosen from the onlookers. Mr M. Gapara of Hippo Valley Estates answered 5 consecutive questions successfully and won a basketful hamper thereby starting his Easter on a good note.

The crowd was thinning out towards evening as many had left for the holidays and the launch came to a close at 5p.m which coincidentally is also the closing time of Pelagias Lost Spider Internet Cafe in Chiredzi.
